OC Science’s Elementary Biology Training Session Workshop took place from 10:00 A.M to noon on Saturday, January 13. The training session covered all the fundamentals of biology from the four macromolecules and basic organelles all the way to the steps of mitosis and an in-depth explanation of photosynthesis. Although most of the material was new to the students, they were interested and engaged throughout the entire workshop. The students took copious notes and drew detailed diagrams to explain the biological processes, such as that of cellular respiration.
“Even though the material was challenging,” OC Science Vice President of General Public Outreach Elaine C. said, “it was wonderful to see that the students were taking notes, asking questions, and staying engaged.”
This was the first training session for these aspiring scientists. The next training session will be a Chemistry Training Session on January 27, followed by a Physics Training Session on February 10, and an Earth Science Training Session on February 24. The final training session on March 3 will be a comprehensive review of everything the students learned in the previous workshops. These training sessions help prepare students for OC Science's Science Bowl competition during OC Science's Science and Engineering Week during March.
